Frequently Asked Questions

faqs

What size should my mat be?

This will be affected by 3 main factors; type of traffic, volume and area of application. If the mat is going inside a large undercover entrance then the mat can be smaller. If there is a large volume of foot traffic during a day then it will need to be larger. Generally, we recommend 6-8 steps on an entry mat is enough to clean the soles of shoes.

How much water will my mat absorb?

This depends on the product and materials used because some mats hold water whilst others absorb it. Polypropylene mats such as the Premium Scraper hold up to 7 litres of water per square metre, meaning it is contained in the structure of the mat and excess might cause it to become waterlogged. Nylon mats like our Absorba mat fully absorb water, so the moisture is trapped by each individual fibre. This feature wicks the moisture to the base of the mat so that the surface keeps performing.

Do the mats create a trip hazard?

Only cheap, worn or incorrectly placed mats create trip hazards.

How long will the mat last?

All our mats are guaranteed to last a very long time. For the lifespan of an individual mat, feel free to get in touch!

What is the best way to clean the mats?

This depends on the mat too!

Rubber mats can generally be hosed off easily, and scraper style mats can be shaken or hoovered.

Do entry mats need to comply with fire standards?

Yes. According to The Building Code of Australia, floor coverings require a Critical Radiant Flux (CRF in kW/m2) of up to 4.5 for buildings not fitted with sprinklers and for fire-isolated exits or up to 2.2 for buildings fitted with a sprinkler system.

Is a softer mat more comfortable to stand on?

Not necessarily! Some mats with a plush finish feel pleasant underfoot, but if you will be standing on it all day, you will want a firm rubber anti-fatigue mat.

Why do I need entrance matting?

An entrance mat is crucial for preventing slips, trips and falls. They also prevent debris and moisture from being walked throughout your building, reducing cleaning and maintenance costs.

What are my options if I don't have a mat well?

If you don’t have a mat well, you can opt for ramp edges or a low profile mat. The best option will depend on your requirements, so reach out to one of our matting experts for a more detailed answer.

What is modular matting?

Modular matting is usually a term that refers to mats that are produced in an interlocking tile format. This allows for an entire floor to be covered with no transitions or trip hazards. Another benefit of modular mats is that if a section is damaged this can be swapped without the need of replacing the entire area.

What is the difference between precision cut and printed mats?

Precision cut logo mats are ideal for high traffic areas. They not only look fabulous but are also excellent at removing dirt and moisture.

Printed logo mats are ideal for brand awareness. They convey that first impression at the crucial moment that visitors cross the entrance into your shopping mall or building.

Do you do on site visits/surveys?

Yes! We offer full service from sales through installation and all the way to maintenance. For support with a mat of any age, feel free to reach out to one of our team.

How often does my mat need to be cleaned?

That depends on the type of mat and traffic of the area. Coir mats, for example, need to be cleaned more regularly than rubber mats in a low traffic area.
